Subject : Revival pain of Sun Safes
Dated : 2006.9.9.
¡°A kite has a revival pain of braking beak and having its toenail off at the age of 40 to enjoy the life span of 70 years. Our company is at the last step of the process.¡±
President Kim has an intolerable pain to revive for 9 months as a kite has. She has to manage the company alone after sudden death of her husband who was the founder of the company, Yong Ho Kim, by the traffic accident. She has to prove to the related banks and other business connections that the company is running normally. Before death of Chairman Kim, President Kim was in charge of the management including finance and administration and Chairman Kim was in charge of the manufacturing process including technology development.
¡°At first, I would like to take a rest after selling this company, but I can not give up the company which my husband regarded as the most precious thing. So, I made up my mind to keep this company to be strong, even though small.¡±
Fortunately, it did not take long for the company to return to normal operation. In latter of the year, the order for export was increased about 50%. Production is rather not enough to meet the rapidly growing orders. Export goal of this year is expected to be $10 millions without any problem.
President Kim said ¡°Even though our company is small, but it is very strong.¡± The 80% of total yearly sales (2004) of \11billions is made by export. We are exporting our products to more than 100 countries in the world. And our company is regarded as one of leading companies in domestic market. Sunil Safes produces fireproof safes in early 1980.
President Kim said ¡°In the great fire of Naksan Temple in last April, our safe remained safe and the valuables were found undamaged, even when the copper bell of National treasure 479 was melted down.¡± Even though she lost her husband who was a support of the family, she was not lonely. Her two daughters assisted her in business management. The first daughter, who was majored in Control and Instrumentation Engineering ( Korea University), is in charge of manufacturing part as a managing director following her father. The second daughter whose major was Business Administration, is in charge of the Overseas Sales Team
We can not think of present Sunil Safes without Chairman Yong Ho Kim. He had become a war orphan by the Korean War on June 25, 1950 at the age of 13 due to the deaths of his mother and elder sister. He had finished only his elementary school and he had led on a life in the slums in his teens. Fortunately, he learned manufacturing skills of safes in his twenties. He visited safes manufacturing company (Joongang Safes) for asking to stay there only for his meals. Later, it is followed by Sunil Safes. He tried to assemble and dissemble safes repeatedly to learn the manufacturing technologies, which he had bought in secondhand shops. He also learned technologies in German and Japanese companies.
When President Young Sook Kim was asked to describe Chairman Kim, her eyes were dampened. ¡°His priority was the company not the family. I used to feel sorry against his behavior but now, I am ready to do my best to make the company as one of best companies in the safes industry.¡±
